Rant - cellphones!

Monday, August 18th, 2008

Almost all of us have a cellphone/handphone/PDA, and the so-called cellphone experience is being ‘nuked’ by cellphone companies, adverts, and even by ourselves.

Points to take note of:
1. Talking to someone about something intimate in public.
Gosh, it’s so weird and disgusting (ewwww) to bear listening to someone gabbing about the sexual olympics of the previous nights. [...]

Voting Machines (XKCD)

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Yesterday’s XKCD comic was fantastic as always - depicting a very good analogy!

Alt Text: And that’s *another* crypto conference I’ve been kicked out of.  C’mon, it’s a great analogy!
Obligatory advert:

This comic reminds me of South Park - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proper_Condom_Use. The teachers should have been replaced by Chef in this episode. WLOL. (Rip Isaac Hayes, BTW.)
A Freemanic [...]

The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in Mauritius

Monday, August 11th, 2008

The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre which is at Bell Village is one of the most well-kept secrets in Mauritius!
We went there two weeks ago with average expectations… We payed (I believe) Rs. 30 for a ticket. The first nice surprise was that there were a lot of things to experiment with in the yard. Things like using parabolas [...]

Mozilla Labs’ Snowl Prototype = NOT INNOVATIVE

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Last week, the Mozilla Project had released Snowl which is an experimental messaging prototype that could allow people to collate and view messages from email, RSS, messaging, and social networks.
Quoting from Mozilla Labs:-
It’s a prototype Firefox extension that integrates messaging into the browser based on a few key ideas:
1. It doesn’t matter where messages originate. [...]

Google Maps (XKCD)

Monday, August 11th, 2008

Today’s XKCD comic is truly funny and the situation depicted can occur in real life.

Alt text: Apparently Google assumes you’re traveling during the ferry’s normal operating hours.  We lost two hours circling that damn lake (to say nothing of the Straw Man).
It reminds me of an episode of Doctor Who - The Sontaran Stratagem. Nav-sats [...]

ICT Regional Conference - Part 1

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

I’ll hereby write about the conference - streams 1,2, and part of stream 4. I’d missed stream 3 and the beginning of stream 4 for I’d to watch the kaimushi.
Anyway, stream 1 started on Thursday 7th August 2K8.
There was no table!!! There were chairs though.

The Honourable Etienne Sinathamboo inaugurated the conference.

His speech was not boring [...]
