We just each got a shiny new MacBook laptop from work. This will replace my main Linux workstation at the office. I have been struggling hard to fine tune this Macbook for better productivity. I am not new to OS X. I have a MacMini at home but use it mainly for surfing and watching [...]

If you browse some Internet services websites regularly, you should recognise this lady. We call her the “datacenter lady” or the “Ensim lady.” This picture is in some royalty-free image banks. She is being used (and abused) on many websites.
TinEye lists about 37 websites using this picture but I personally know some more. She was [...]

GNS3 is a great front-end for Dynamips, a Cisco IOS emulator. Unlike other software, Dynamips runs on real IOS image. It’s the most real you can get apart from buying the hardware. It can run several instances and link them virtually. This is a great achievement in reverse engineering.

Google switched off the lights. There was a stupid article the other day claiming that would save a lot of energy (750MWh) if Google used a black background.Well, let’s see now. As for the Earth hour, you will see that the energy usage will drop well before 8pm mark if people anticipate it or there [...]

Flying ground school is over now but I’ve not been flying for two months now. The weather was not helping either. My car looks 2 years older after this harsh winter. In about 2-3 flights, I’ll be ready for my first solo which is an important step in the learning process. But I’m holding off [...]

Have you noticed that after a Mac OS X software update, it gives you only two choices: reboot or shutdown? WTF? Where is the “no, I’ll reboot later” button? In Windows, the Apple software updater (iTunes, Quicktime, Safari) gives you the choice to reboot later. It’s quite ironic that you can do it in Windows [...]

After watching the ScobleShow on Smugmug, I decided to give it a try. My original intent is to pay for a Smugmug subscription and let my Flickr account die. In the interview, they showed how they auto-resize the picture. You get a larger picture if you have a larger screen. If you resize your browser [...]
