Shiny new MacBook has usability problems

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

We just each got a shiny new MacBook laptop from work. This will replace my main Linux workstation at the office. I have been struggling hard to fine tune this Macbook for better productivity. I am not new to OS X. I have a MacMini at home but use it mainly for surfing and watching [...]

What text editor do you use?

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

Once more, I’ve been thinking about that one thing that regularly prevents geeks like us from sleeping peacefully: What is the text editor that I prefer?
I’ve always been a vim guy. I think I started using it on my Amiga or something about 15 years ago. I used it daily when I was studying in [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “What text editor do you use?”, url: “http://www.noulakaz.net/weblog/2008/07/16/what-text-editor-do-you-use/” });

Steve Jobs has flair…

Monday, July 14th, 2008

According to Apple, one million of iPhones 3G have been sold during its first week-end! I don’t remember any other expensive technology product being as successful as the iPhone 3G in its first week-end.
I can only conclude (like countless have done before me) that Steve Jobs has flair.
I need one.

Preserving digital memories

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Like most (technology-oriented) parents, Christina and I have recorded hours and hours of Digital Video (DV) of Anya and Kyan growing and we’re still doing it now.
Digital Video (DV) requires a lot of space (of the order of 15Gb per hour!) Consequently, we edited the raw footage like mad and discarded all the crap to [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “Preserving digital memories”, url: “http://www.noulakaz.net/weblog/2008/06/23/preserving-digital-memories/” });

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

Something that many of us have been longing for some time now has finally happened. Apple has announced that they will begin shipping the new iPhone 3G as from July at a dramatically reduced price ($199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model) compared to the “old” iPhone. It seems that the price [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “The iPhone 3G will be available in Mauritius”, url: “http://www.noulakaz.net/weblog/2008/06/11/the-iphone-3g-will-be-available-in-mauritius/” });

In awe at Mac OS X 10.5 aka Leopard

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

I’ve upgraded my MacBook to Mac OS X 10.5 also known as Leopard. And I love it!
I have been using computers proficiently for, let’s see, around 20 years now and I am as excited with Leopard as when I first got my Commodore Amiga 500 around 1990 and I first discovered Linux around 2000. This [...]SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: “In awe at Mac OS X 10.5 aka Leopard”, url: “http://www.noulakaz.net/weblog/2008/05/08/in-awe-at-mac-os-x-105-aka-leopard/” });
