Earlier today, I treated myself with a new pair of Giorgo Armani spectacles. One of my goals of 2009 was to stop wearing flame-less glasses for the screws always loosen up every two or three weeks.

This one rocks. The frame is cut out of a sheet of metal. There are no screws and inside is a strong nylon spring which makes the entire thing flexible.

I got a good deal for it ~ Rs. 6K.

My astigmatism has worsen, BTW. Both lenses are now over 4.0. (whatever the number means.) They used to be around 2 and 2.5.

Anyway, if you want cool, good and solid spectacles, go to Mathieu Opticians. You shall not be disappointed and more importantly, these spectacles will last for a long time. (unless you are into fashion and need to change specs every year.

Earlier today, I drove to Curepipe to do one of my least favourite activity – window shopping. I want to replace the curtains the shed.

So, here I am snapping pictures of various curtains in order to compare them when I get back home, all cozy in front of the screens. Nobody stopped me.

It is legal to snap pictures in public places where the object being snapped is in public view, and as long as there is no intention of publishing the picture without the authorisation of the owner.

Anyway, while getting back – I noticed a small shop at Mesnil, run by Mr. K. Samtally. I stopped my car at the gas station and walk my way there and again, snap 1 picture of a curtain being advertised outside.

Here is when things got quite interestingly dangerous.

The guy got out of this shop and started yelling at me. He was crying out that it was a private place and I have no rights of taking pictures.

Note: I was standing on the streets and not within the premises of his shop. The curtain was being advertised in public view.

He had a baleful look. I walked back to the car after rudely but calmly telling him “aurevoir.” I drove off. I did not want to harm any of my devices which were on me and surely did not want to come to arms with a low life like this guy. He should have allowed me to explain what I was doing.

Anyway, some people seem to be unaware of the street photography and the laws associated to it. And many lack rudimentary manners. If you are in Mauritius, just be discrete when snapping pictures in public.

BTW, there was no sign like the one above anywhere near his shop.

What a douche! I wish I had reported him to the police for threatening to cause harm to me.
