SEO - Search Engine Optimisation

by Adam Woozeer

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the implementation of strategies that targets the improvement of a website’s traffic on the Web. Aside from personal pages on the Net, SEO targets the online business community to improve its productivity — in terms of profit and success.

How SEO works?

There are two types of SEO being implemented today: on-site and off-site optimization. On-site optimization entails the placement of keywords in various areas of the page that will increase its search engine lookup coverage. The site’s placement on search engine results will increase if the keyword keyed in by the Web surfer matches perfectly with those found on the page.

Off-site optimization entails the implementation of SEO concepts outside the boundaries of the online page. In most cases, this involves the placement of links in different areas of the Web to increase its page rank — which in turn improves its rank in search engine results pages.

These two concepts of SEO target a website’s existence in search engines. We can never deny the fact that the online community mainly utilizes search engines to look for information on the information superhighway. By targeting the top ranks of these search results, preferably on the first page, an online business’ website is sure to bring in traffic that will eventually lead to a productive enterprise.

Proper Implementation

There are rules and regulation that needs to be followed in the implementation of SEO. Randomly integrating its concepts without properly planning will not generate the expected results during the course of your online business operation.

1. Keywords

Webmasters needs to be aware that spamming keywords is not an advisable tactic in improving their site’s online coverage. It is true that having more of your keywords on a page will ensure a high rank in search engine results, but may eventually get banned by search engines due to keyword spamming.

It is advisable to plan for this strategy ahead of time. Come up with a list of keyword variations that reflects your site’s content (your business, product, services, etc.) and integrate them into the page’s content without compromising its overall quality.

2. Links

If you plan to implement link building strategies with other sites on the Web, then you need to ensure that your partner sites are those with relevant information to yours. Their information that briefly tackles your product will serve as marketing strategy that will give a good reputation to your venture.

Also, it is advisable to integrate links into your body in text format, not in raw. Convert text into links using HTML tags. Banners (images and graphics) are perfect examples of appealing links.
