Infotech 2K8
by ShahYesterday, I spent my day at the Swami Vivekananda Conference Centre where Infotech 2008 and the ICT Regional Conference were hosted. I’ll be there for the evening stream later this evening for I’m trying to gain some information about the upcoming Oracle Fusion release.
I was disappointed by the fair. I’m after innovative technologies and cute gadgets, not newly peripherals and gadgets. The fair was like a big tech. store. Sure, there were booths for unis and human resource recruitment but I, for one, am not interested in those. So, I walked around and it felt like a major “bla” moment if you catch my drift.
Here are some pictures:

The only gadget which got my attention was the HTC Touch Diamond. It’s a good development platform for mobile computing. The fact that it runs Windows Mobile is not much of a problem for you can deploy .NET 3.5 compact framework and get your .NET apps and services running. The device is kinda sexy.

I stumbled onto an abomination.

Come on. It was a pain to see Vista on the iMac.
Oh, there were 2 naked guys holding DCL boxes outside. Here’s one of them. WLOL. Though having naked statue guys is supposed to be artistic, I, for one, had found it funny and a little gross.

The deal the Gov and NCB signed with AMD, to have computers (assembled in MRU itself) sold at around Rs. 10000, is a blessing to most Mauritians. *cough..now, it’s time to get Mauritians to use free and legal software *read open source* to lower their software expense*
I’ll write about the IT regional conference (we didn’t get tables, BTW) later on. Have an enjoyable remainder of the day.
