Of tables & upcoming Infotech 2K8

tables

Finally, I received an email from Miss M.R, the Manager of Business Development @ NCB.

Extract:

We have taken note of you request and shall try our best to provide you with tables, depending on availability of facilities at the Convention Centre.

There is now hope to have tables when once there was none. You’re probably wondering what the frak I’m rambling about. Well, at all the conferences I’ve participated to, or delivered presentations at, there were tables. Last year, at the Infotech thingy, I was stuck with a paper-based notebook and a pencil, and my phone. There was no way I could have held my notebook (computer) on my lap. There was no frakin’ table.

Sure, most of us have wifi-enabled phones but there is no way we can stream videos online, or have a large chunk of video to be uploaded online. We need tables.

What do I look forward to?

At around 10:15 AM on the 7th August, The Honourable Etienne Sinatambou will deliver the opening speech, and just like last year, he will have important matters to attend to, and leave around 10:45. Sure, this is what I expect and it can turn out to be false.

The following topics will be covered:

  • E-Government – rationales, processes and implementation

To be entirely honest, I give frak of processes and implementation for these are trivial and dependent upon the rationales which in my opinion is the set of answers to the following questions:

  1. To what extent is the level of awareness of technology in the gov. sector?
  2. What are the features to be taken into consideration when doing a complete risk analysis?
  3. What are the matters of importance that employees and the population consider?
  4. What are the benefits of e-governance?
  5. What exactly is/are the link(s) between the benefits and the level of awareness? (I’m NOT referring to the IC3 programme.)

I’m sure you can find other rationales.

  • ICT for sectorial exploitation: enhancing growth through ICT

The rationales are important here as well. I look forward to have results of surveys and not just mere talk. I want to know of the “how” and not of the “why.”

  • Outsourcing and off shoring – challenges facing Africa

Aside from the usual frakin’ statements about how successful the frakin’ call centres are doing well, I look forward to know how the country members of the SADC plan to act as a whole when it comes to outsourcing and off shoring. I don’t want to be given examples of indivual countries which compete against each other.

  • Adopting an information security culture

I look forward to relax during this stream, and find flaws in the lectures. *cough* (security culture = censorship nowadays.) *cough*

Oh, I hope we’ll be given chairs, and not just tables. WLOL. I don’t expect the streams to be exciting enough for the conference is not truly meant for engineers/developers. But still, it’s a good opportunity to do some mingling with participants. Cya @ Infotech (I’ll be in the shadows, holding my batrang. WLOL)
