Poverty & Child Labour
by DonnaGood morning.
Though it is a sad topic to write about especially considering the fact that the blog is new, it is a matter of importance. Life is not always all sparkled with happiness. There are sad as well as evil things happening all the time.
I’ve read the Oxfam’s report published in June 2008 which claimed that at least 290 million human beings are are in mortal danger due to the lack of food, due to the factors like bio fuel policies.
And recently, I’ve watched a documentary on the BBC on child labour. It was terrible and I even shared a few tears at the plight of these poor Indian children struggling hard to earn a living because their parents could not meet the two ends.
I had nearly broken my TV set in an attempt to punch my fist at the jaw of the man who was ordering a nine year old to do his job properly. As a result of this, an outburst of anger and a terrible migraine that followed soon after. The following day, I urged my friends not to buy products which were the results of long hours of hard toil of children under 16 and who had no access to an adequate education. And yet, I ask myself about their chances of survival if they lose the so-called jobs. Not that I am for slavery in any of its hideous form!
I condemn such monstrous deeds. Yet, I ask myself: Are they likely to die due to the impending famine and thus be among the 290 million potential victims and if so, what do you think we can do to save them? One of the worst forms of slavery is currently raging in my little island paradise, a disguised form but certainly a phenomenon that is growing.
Thus during the various school holidays, children are sent under the cover of an internship, working in public companies. The kids’ eagerness to work is rewarded by an only certificate of attendance at the end of their training period. Many don’t even benefit from it. Most learn how to brew tea and serve biscuits the whole office staff. Cheap labour!
BBC 3 in UK filmed some Brit fashion heads to work & live in India’s top clothing manufacturing areas.Shocking footage! Watch.
WTF!
