Facebook, one of the most rapidly growing web site is a very interesting subject to study and follow up, daily….



In addition to its official blog, there are lots of other facebook blogs (example All Facebook) that keep you updated of daily news.Every morning, I connect to these sites to be updated about the sites, technology and things i like!You can read below, the 10 most interesting facts i compiled about facebook from a lots of sites, listed at the end….

1. 24 years old

   Thats the age of the original founder of facebook and the Chief Executive Officer!!
   He is Mark Zuckerburg, and together with 3 of his roommates, he created the site while he was in Harvard University

2. More than 14 million pictures uploaded daily and total of over 4.1 billion pics!

   Most people who have an account with Facebook know the amount of pictures their friends post and so on that daily number of photos reaches over 14 million!

3. Over 500 full-time employees

   Thats the number recorded in March 2008

4. PHP-MySQL, C#, Perl, Python, Erlang, Java, ML

   These are the different platforms on which Facebook is built, and work together.
   It is also the second most-trafficked PHP site in the world after Yahoo!

5. 15 billion page views per month

   Wow! lol, i prefer not to disclose mine *shy*

6. Millions of queries a day

   Their custom-built search engine serve millions of queries a day, completely distributed and entirely in-memory, with real-time updates

7. Over 10,000 servers (including more than 1,800 MySQL database servers) + 200 memcache  Servers!

   + Facebook has recently borrowed money for the purchase of additional 50,000 servers!
   Google is currently consuming over half a million servers each year whereas Microsoft is consuming 200,000 servers each year.
   
   A memcached server temporarily stores information in the server’s memory, reducing the need to search a database for information. This decreases the amount of time it takes between a request for information and the delivery of that data.

8. 100 000 new members per day!

   Thats the figure recorded in August 2007.

9. Over 18,000 applications

   Facebook is one of the largest opensource platforms in the world, perhaps The Largest!!!

10. Average of 20 minutes per day

    That is the average time a person spends on facebook daily
