Reaction to “Augmentation fees UOM”

by tushal

I have been going through an article wrote by Miss Mottee Prisheela and following which I’m against her article and views.

The article can be found here.
{The article will not be produced here due to copyright}

I will only quote part of the article to which I will be giving my comments and reactions.

In a summary, she is not against the rise of UOM fees but infact she welcomes such “augmentation”. Her “explanation” is that if some one can pay a lot of money to go abroad to study, then why can’t people pay Rs16,000 to study at UOM.{UOM stands for University Of Mauritius}

First, those who go abroad are people who have “money” and who can work part time to finance their studies to some extent but still their parents have to send them X amount of money.

She talks about students in Mauritius to work part time to be able to finance their studies.

wooooooow..She got to be given an award for that.

Lets take the example of one of the person who wrote a comment on that page.

He travels 2.5 hours to go to UOM and 2.5 hours to return home.

Which makes 5 hours for traveling.

Lets do a simple analysis.

He has A course 08.30 to 11.00 and B course from 13.00 to 15.00 on every week days and have C course from 09.00 to 11.00 on Saturdays and no course on Sundays.He has to leave home every week days at around 06.00 and he comes back home around 17.00{11 hours out of his home every week day}

Do you take that person for a machine?Does not that person get tired?Doesn’t that person have any life for himself, for his parents, for his friends, for his girlfriend, for his homework, for his revision?Do you want that person to suffer “breakdown, depression and stress” which in result could deteriorate his health?
You’re referring to students abroad but you missed out 1 important point.They live on campus or live at a max of 30min walk from University! ! !Now try compare this with 2.5 hours traveling to go to Uni.! ! !

Coming to “what if there was not UOM, bla bla bla”Far fetch thought and I don’t think its important to comment on that part perhaps only a few lines.{Had there been no Uni in Mauritius, this would had been a completely different situation.May I repeat myself.A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SITUATION.}

Concerning your so called “fond” I will be glad to know to what “fond” are you referring?

Are you referring to Union’s “fond” which every student contribute Rs200?

Lets make another simple calculation.{I have no idea how many students they are at UOM}Lets take it 4000 students to be enrolled this year. 4000*200 means Rs800k.{Do you think that this amount is a lot of money?I don’t think so.}

So, Uni fees are Rs16,000 and we have, example, 100 students which come from poor families and have difficulties to pay for the course.

100*16500= Rs1650000.

So you’re planning to take Rs800, 000 to pay for fees amounting to Rs1.6 million! ! ! !

You have to make me learn this new “rule”.Many businessmen will be happy to know the secret behind such success.{I’m just being sarcastic}

Furthermore, on what basis and grounds will you allocate money from that “fond” to pay for some students fees?What criteria will you use?Its so easy to open “la bouche apres coser”.But how to implement your idea? ?Have you thought that that or ………………?

Or perhaps you may be referring to another”fond”.Please let me know.

Concerning your part time job “ki ena partout”.Can you give me the list based on which you made such a comment?{Aviod telling me call centers.PLEASE.}{I don’t have time to re write that students are not machines made to be on 24/24}{During exams/courses period I don’t even get time to sit and eat like I’m used to and now to work after my courses is IMPOSSIBLE.}

Her last sentence and 1 particular line from her comments
“Etudian universiter - pas zenfant nu p kozer la .. mais nu ban adultes. Nu bisin cone tracer pu nu l’avenir.”

“To un garcon 20 ans to enkor p depend lot to mama papa.Ca meme to facon de penser bien kuma zenfant. ”

I have no shame to say that YES.I am dependent of my parents.I’m actually studying and I don’t have time to work.Most of my time gets over with research work and on certain days, I don’t even have time to sit and have dinner.{try asking a student who is doing medicine if he/she has enough time or ask a student going a llb degree{like myself} if they have time to go and to work?} And beware.I’m not your friend. Calling some one “penser bien kuma zenfant” could amount “damaging his reputation”or “lowering his reputation in the eyes of public.”

By the way, I have just forgot something.

Do you work to pay for your Uni fees or you too you depend on your parents?I’m just curious to know.

Again, working part time and to study{IN MAURITIUS} is nearly impossible.

{we don’t have 20 hours working system in Mauritius}In long term, this will affect that person’s health.{If you want, I can give u the views of a doctor in the coming days.}

I have nothing personal against any one.I just gave my views.Happy reading.

A closing line.I have discussed that with some friends who are abroad and they could not stop laughing.{Don’t come and ask me why.I’m not in a position to write their minds}

Miss Mottee Prisheela, are you aware that most Universities in France are free?Only those attending “grand lecole” have to pay their fees. And not to forget that the France Govt pays half of your lodging! ! !
